Drowning Is Preventable

Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children under 5 and the 2nd leading cause in children under 14.

 

Float First Aquatics, is helping to fight this statistic through high quality swim lessons and community outreach.

Put in place several layers of protection to keep your children safe in and around the water. 

Drowning Facts

  • No one is drown proof!

  • Drowning does not look like you would expect or see on TV. It is SILENT and can happen in as little as 20-60 seconds.

  • Learning to swim can reduce the risk of drowning by 88% for 1-4 year olds who take formal swim lessons. However is not a replacement for adult supervision.

  • Our #1 rule is to always have an adult present while children are swimming.

  • Designate a "Water Watcher". This is someone who is free of all distractions and never leaves the pool unattended. 

Layers of Protection

  • Active Supervision

    • Designate a Water Water​

    • Stay within arms reach

  • Barriers

    • Install self closing, self locking gates in the yard and around the pool

    • Alarms on doors and windows

    • Remove dog doors

    • Put away toys and floats when you are done swimming

  • CPR 

  • Swimming Lessons​​​

    • Not all swimming programs are the same. Choose high quality survival swimming lessons. ​
